NSW COMBINED HIGH SCHOOLS SPORTS ASSOCIATION

NORTH WESTERN METROPOLITAN

 HIGH SCHOOLS SPORTS ASSOCIATION

SQUASH

Match duration:

Schools are to play the following rules:

- Matches are to run for 90 minutes in total (1.00 - 2.30 pm) with one match played on each court.

Format: Timed games

- Matches can be played in the following formats to fit the 90 minute timeslot:

1. 8 x 8 minute timed games (if there are 4 players in both teams) or

2. 8 x 8 minute timed games (if there are 5 players in one team & 4 players in the other) or

3. 10 x 6-7 minute timed games (5 players in both teams)

- Time in between games/ changeover of players is to be minimised to allow for the full playing time. Players need to be ready to take the court as soon as the previous game concludes.

- Players are allowed sufficient time to warm up the ball before the first game. One minute of warm-up / hitting is allowed before each of the following games.

Timing: One central timer (e.g one teacher’s phone) will be used to keep time for all 4 courts. Each round of games will start and end at the same time. A whistle or signal will be needed to indicate the end of each game.

Example match-ups:

4 players in each team (8 games: 8 mins)

5 players in one team

(8 games: 8 mins)

5 players in both teams (10 games: 6-7 mins)

Protective equipment:

All players must wear protective eyewear.

Ball type: (as a guide to start the season; considering the skill level of new players).

  • Open age groups - single yellow dot ball

  • Lower ability / junior groups - blue or red dot ball

Note: This could change as the season progresses once the skill level of players improves. Keep in mind, the bouncier balls will lengthen each point and allow new players to stay in the point (which is a good thing for new/developing players!).

Refereeing and scoring:

- Students are to practice refereeing and scoring (one player from each team to sit together and do both roles)

Finals:

- All schools must ensure their team seedings are correctly listed in the shared document before the finals day. Schools must have players correctly seeded based on ability (Strongest player as seed 1 etc). Adjustments can be made throughout the season to reflect any changes in ability.

- Teams are to consist of 4 players only (no 5th player to participate in finals)

- Normal Zone eligibility rules apply for finals (i.e. players must have played 3 of the last 5 matches for that team).

- Eight games will be played as follows:
